Good Friday comes on different dates in the year and is celebrated two days before Easter Day to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This year Good Friday is on the 7th of April 2023 and this day is also known as Holy Friday, Black Friday, or Great Friday.
Good Friday History & Celebration
Before the beginning of Christianity, in 33 AD, Jesus Christ used to give the message of brotherhood, unity, and peace to the people and his devotees started considering him as the messenger of God.
So many of the Jewish religious leaders got angry and Incited his ruler against Jesus and got him sentenced to death.
Jesus Christ was tortured before being put to death and was forced to carry the cross on his shoulders wearing a crown of thorns. He was hanged on the cross for 6 hours by hitting his hands and feet with a sharp object.
Even after being crucified, Jesus Christ forgave all those people and said- “O God, forgive them because they do not know what they are doing”.
It is believed that in the last 3 hours of the crucifixion, the whole world was dark and the weather changed completely, due to which the leaders of the Roman Empire realized their mistake.
People of the Christian religion do not celebrate on Good Friday, but on this day there is a prayer meeting in the churches from 3 o’clock and Christians remember Jesus Christ.
