Over 500 individuals were crossing the bridge at the time of the tragedy; 141 of them have been declared killed. For the rescue operation, numerous teams from the NDRF, SDRF, Indian Army, and Coast Guard have been dispatched.

After a six-month refurbishment, the century-old, 756-meter-long bridge from the British Era was reopened to the public on October 26.

This sad tragedy happened on Saturday, October 30, at 6:40 pm, when the bridge could hold no more than 400 to 500 passengers at once. People fell into the Machchuu river when the bridge abruptly collapsed.

According to reports, 210 persons may have fallen into the river. People plunging into the river are shown in the terrible and horrifying CCTV film. People may be seen clinging to the bridge’s cables as they make their way through the pitch black to the river’s shore. The majority of the attendees were come to celebrate Chhath Puja.

Following this tragic incident and the appearance of pictures of the fallen bridge on social media, the opposition began criticising the state’s ruling BJP government and labelling the situation a “man-made catastrophe.”

PM Modi responded to this incident while travelling his own Gujarat. He announced recompense for individuals who perished in the disaster and were hurt. The prime minister of Gujarat stated that he has never experienced such suffering and that even though he is at Ekta Nagar, his thoughts are with the Morbi victims.
