History of Academy Award

The awards committee was just one of a few groups that had been shaped by the new association at the time the foundation was founded in 1927. Award introduction was contemplated but not immediately carried out.

It wasn’t until May 1928 that the foundation agreed to support the board’s proposals to introduce the Academy Awards of Merit in 12 categories: most extraordinary production, most imaginative or unique production, accomplishment by an actor or actress, accomplishment in dramatic direction, accomplishment in comedic direction, accomplishment in cinematography, accomplishment in art direction, accomplishment in designing effects, accomplishment in an original story composition, accomplishment in variation composition, and accomplishment in title composition.

The films that were delivered between August 1, 1927, and July 31, 1928, were eligible for major awards. On May 16, 1929, at a gathering at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, the prizes were presented. The foundation’s whole enrolment included named contestants in every category. Then, five sheets of judges reduced the top 10 contestants in each category by three ideas after not truly settling the contest.

The number of classifications was reduced to seven on April 3, 1930, and the two main film rewards were combined into one category known as the best picture. Since then, the foundation has continued to make frequent changes to the laws, methods, and categories. The decision to extend the supporting actor and actress categories in 1936 and to amend the qualification period for the award in 1933 were two of the most significant developments.

At first, the names of the award winners were released to the media in advance with the request that they not be made public until after the award ceremony. Before the show, the Los Angeles Times published the winners of the 1939 awards, killing all the anticipation. The winners’ names have thus been carefully kept a secret up to the announcement during the award ceremony.

The Academy Awards were initially shown in the US in 1953, and starting in the late ’60s, they have been broadcast internationally. Millions of people had witnessed the ceremony by the late 20th century when it had become an important event.

Since the show’s start, Bob Hope, Johnny Carson, and Billy Crystal have hosted it. A three-hour time limit restriction and a preceding air date restriction were two of the adjustments made to the Academy Awards. These amendments took effect in 2020.
