Kapoor then returned with Deepika Padukone in Imtiaz Ali’s romantic drama film Tamasha (2015). He got to play Ved Sahni, a man who aspires to be an artist but settles for a life of monotony as an engineer. The film failed commercially yet again and received negative reviews from critics.

Kapoor’s career grow in 2016 when he played an amateur musician in Karan Johar’s romantic drama film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016) with Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
