Shahid Kapoor is widely considered one of Bollywood’s best actor-dancers. He also ranks among Bollywood’s top ten actors. The actor has been a dancer when he was a kid and joined Shiamak Davar’s dance institute at the age of ten. He later worked as a background dancer in a few television ads and film music songs during his starting career in the entertainment industry.
Shahid Kapoor is the child of Bollywood actor Pankaj Kapur and actress Neelima Azeem, who separated when he was just three years old. The actor was birthed on February 25, 1981, in New Delhi and chose to make a career in acting.
He had a few flops in his starting career in Bollywood, but his fame among young people, particularly female fans was huge.
Shahid started his movie career with Ken Ghosh’s film Ishq Vishk (2003) opposite Amrita Rao and Shenaz Treasurywala. This film was a hit at the box office and Shahid won the best male debut Filmfare award.

Following his debut, Kapoor again worked with Ghosh film Fida (2004) opposite Kareena Kapoor. After this film, Kapoor was cast in the romantic drama Dil Maange More, alongside three actresses: Soha Ali Khan, Tulip Joshi, and Ayesha Takia. Both 2004 films were flops at the box office.
In 2005 he appeared in three movies Deewane Huye Paagal, Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi!, and Shikhar but again these movies didn’t succeed at the box office.
Shahid’s play lead opposite Kareena to the film 36 China Town (2006) a murder mystery directed by Abbas-Mustan. Also, that year again work opposite Kareena in the Chup Chup Ke film but the great success he earns from the Vivah film.
In 2007 his film Fool & Final was a flop but the romantic comedy Jab We Met, directed by Imtiaz Ali, was one of the year’s highest-grossing films. The film follows the story of a deeply disturbed businessperson (Shahid Kapoor) whose circumstances change after meeting a chatty girl (Kareena Kapoor) on a train journey.
Following his appearance in the rom-com Kismat Konnection (2008) opposite Vidya Balan, Kapoor started playing twin brothers, one with a drawl and the other with a wobble, in Vishal Bhardwaj’s highly lauded action thriller Kaminey (2009).
Kapoor’s 2nd movie in 2009 was Dil Bole Hadippa! opposite Rani Mukerji a romantic comedy cricket-based film. This film was unsuccessful at the box office.
Kapoor plays the lead role in his father’s directorial film Mausam (2011), which co-starred Sonam Kapoor and took two years to make. The film was a commercial failure, and Shahid later expressed disappointment for devoting so much time to it.
Shahid’s first 2013 release was the comedy film Phata Poster Nikhla Hero directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. His character was Vishwas Rao, a struggling actor who poses as a cop. The film received bad reviews from critics, though Shahid’s performance was appreciated.
In 2013 Shahid played the lead opposite Sonakshi Sinha in the action film R… Rajkumar directed by Prabhu Deva. This film was the highest opening movie at the box office.
Shahid Next joined Haider film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj which he starred as the titular character opposite Tabu and Shraddha Kapoor. For the role, Shahid received several awards, such as the Screen Award, Producers Guild Film Award, and Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
In 2015 Vikas Bahl’s film Shaandaar, Shahid co-starred with Alia Bhatt. It’s a both critical and commercial flop about two people with insomnia who become lovers at a formal wedding.
Kapoor then played a drug-addicted musician in Udta Punjab (2016), a crime thriller directed by Abhishek Chaubey. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) started demanding extensive censorship of Udta Punjab before its cinema release, referencing the film’s negative image of Punjab.
Following a lawsuit filed by the producers against the board, the High Court of Bombay approved its screening with a single scene cut wherein Kapoor’s personality is seen going to the toilet on people. For his acting, Shahid won many awards.
Shahid played important role in the blockbuster Padmaavat (2018), directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and co-starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. This is one of the biggest hits of the all-time Shahid Kapoor films.
Later that year, he played the lead opposite Shraddha Kapoor in Batti Gul Meter Chalu based on India’s village energy problems, for which he learned the Garhwali dialect.
In 2019, Shahid played the lead in Kabir Singh, a movie version of Arjun Reddy (2017), a Telugu romantic drama in which he performed an ego person who is alcoholic and waiting for his ex-girlfriend. This film was a blockbuster at the box office.
After a long break, Kapoor returned to the big screen with the sports drama film Jersey (2022), a remake of the Telugu film with the same title about a former cricketer looking to return to the sport in his late 30s. Shahid Kapoor performed so well but this film didn’t succeed at the box office.
