The Wonder is a forthcoming psychological period drama movie that is based on the same-titled book from 2016. It is directed by Oscar-winning Sebastian Lelio and is based on a screenplay written by Emma Donoghue, Lelio, and Alice Birch.

Produced by Ed Guiney, Tessa Rose, Juliette Howell, and Andrew Lowe under the umbrellas of Elements Pictures, House Productions, Screen Ireland, and Access Entertainment, filming began in Ireland in August 2021.

About The Film

The Wonder takes place in 1862 in the Irish Midlands and was inspired by the craze of “fasting girls” in the 19th century. The narrative centres on Lib Wright, an English nurse who is sent to a tiny community to examine an 11-year-old girl who has reportedly gone without food for several months. Many visitors and pilgrims visit the town to witness the tragic occurrence for themselves.
