Every May 7, World Athletics Day, is celebrated. The International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF), which introduced it in 1996, launched it as a social responsibility project called “Athletic for the better world”. Every year, the day is celebrated worldwide to raise awareness among youth about the importance of being fit and healthy.

Primo Nebiolo, then President of the IAAF, started World Athletics Day in 1996. IAAF, the World Athletics Federation and international governing body in athletics, sponsors this day each year. Its primary focus is on health and fitness.

IAAF organizes various tournaments and competitions in schools, colleges, and universities.
