World Population Day 2022- Aim, History and Quotes

World Population Day every year is celebrated on 11 July for educating people around all over the world about gender equality. Family planning, the problem of the growing population, and human rights.

Every 14 months the world population is increasing to 100 million. A country’s population has a significant impact on its development and operations. The more populous a country, the more difficult it is to develop at a consistent rate.

As a result, reducing overpopulation is critical to ensuring the long-term expansion of our current resources, whether on a national or global scale.

It took hundreds of thousands of years for the world’s population to reach one billion, and only about 200 years for it to multiply sevenfold.

The global population surpassed 7 billion in 2011, and it now stands at 7.7 billion, with projections of 8.5 billion in 2030, 9.7 billion in 2050, and 10.7 billion in 2080. Every year, to draw attention to the role of the population factor in all aspects, it is celebrated.

HISTORY OF WORLD POPULATION DAY

The United Nations Development Programme’s Governing Council established the first World Population Day event on July 11, 1970. (UNDP). It was inspired by the public’s fascination with Five Billion Day on July 11, 1987, the approximate date when the world’s population surpassed five billion people. This day was created in 1989 by the Governing counseling of the united nation. The idea for the day was put forth by Dr. K.C.Zachariah who suggested that the world the population grow to five Billion while he was working as a Senior Demographer for the World Bank.

In December 1990, the United Nations General Assembly recognized World Population Day with Resolution 45/216 in order to raise awareness about the growing population, particularly people’s connections with the environment and its development.

More than 90 countries observed the first World Population Day on July 11, 1990. Since then, a number of UNFPA country offices and other organizations and institutions have observed World Population Day in collaboration with governments and civil society.
