Chhoti Diwali 2023 Wishes, Messages, Status, Images {HD} & More

Chhoti Diwali is celebrated every year a day before Diwali which falls on the 14th day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik. Like Diwali, it is customary to light lamps around the house in Chhoti Diwali and it is considered very auspicious to light a lamp by the eldest member of the house.

Chhoti Diwali is also known as Kali Chaudas, Narak Chaudas, or Narak Chaturdashi and in 2023 it will be celebrated on 12th November.

Many Hindus observe fast on this day and it is believed that those who donate to the poor and Brahmins get a place in Vishnu Lok.

On this day, many devotees wake up before sunrise, after applying oil to the body and putting Chirchiri leaves in water and taking a bath with it, visit the Lord in Vishnu temple and Krishna temple so that their sins can be removed and beauty can be attained.

Why celebrate Chhoti Diwali in Hinduism?

Chhoti Diwali is also known as Narak Chaturdashi because according to Hindu beliefs, a pious king named Ranti Dev did not commit any sin but at the time of his death, Yamdoots came to take him to hell.

Seeing this, the king asked the reason for taking him to hell, then Yamdoot said that once a hungry Brahmin had returned from your door and this is the result of his sinful deeds.

Knowing this, the king was very sad and asked Yamdoot for one year’s time to rectify his mistake and went to the sages and asked for a solution to get rid of this sin.

The sages suggested the king fast on the Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha of the month of Kartik and feed the hungry Brahmins and apologize for their crimes.

By following the advice of the sages, the king was absolved of sin and got a place in Vishnu Lok.

According to another story, on the day of Naraka Chaturdashi, Lord Shri Krishna killed the tyrant Narakasura and freed sixteen thousand one hundred girls from Narakasura’s prison house and married them.
