Malavika Mohanan, the daughter of cinematographer K. U. Mohanan, was born on August 4, 1993. She was born in the town of Payyanur in Kerala’s Kannur district and grew up in Mumbai.
Mohanan earned a degree in Mass Media from Wilson College in Mumbai, hoping to follow in her father’s footsteps as a cinematographer or director. While she was considering furthering her education after graduation, she accompanied her father to a commercial shoot for a fairness cream starring veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty.
The actor then inquired about Mohanan’s interest in acting before offering her a role in an upcoming Malayalam film opposite his son, Dulquer Salmaan.
Mohanan gave the proposal careful thought before passing an audition and accepting terms to star in Pattam Pole (2013), and he gradually learned about the acting process as the shoot progressed.
Mohanan’s second film, Nirnayakam (2015), in which she played a ballet dancer, received positive reviews but received a lukewarm commercial response.
Mohanan worked on her first Kannada film, Naanu Mattu Varalakshmi, with debutant actor Prithvi in 2016.
Mohanan’s breakthrough as an actress came when she played Tara, a poor girl from Mumbai’s Dhobi Ghat suburb, in Majid Majidi’s drama Beyond the Clouds (2017).
She signed on to play a role in Karthik Subbaraj’s Petta (2019), alongside Rajinikanth, Vijay Sethupathi, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, in mid-2018. Now she is working is some big upcoming movies project and she is very active on social media and also has a big fan following.
