Engineer’s Day in India is celebrated every year on 15th September on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Visvesvaraya, who played an important role in the creation of modern India.

Engineer’s Day is celebrated in almost every country for the honor and work done by the people working in the field of engineering.

Engineer’s Day is celebrated on different days in different countries, such as in Argentina on 16 June, Bangladesh on 7 May, Belgium on 20 March, Colombia on 17 August, Mexico on 1 July, Iran on 24 February, July 1 in Mexico, September 14 in Romania, December 5 in Turkey.

Nowadays, many things being used in our daily life have been made by engineers, so that we can do many things easily.

Due to engineering, today we have become so advanced that we can go to any part of the world in just 1 day, we can contact each other easily, we are able to study online from home, and many problems can be solved easily.

National Engineers Day History

Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was born on 15 September 1980 in Karnataka state of India and he contributed a lot to making India a modern country, due to which Engineer’s Day is celebrated on 15 August every year in honor of Visvesvaraya.

Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was very promising since childhood and after studying primary school in Chikballapur, he went to Bangalore for further education.

After passing the BA examination from Madras University’s Central College, Bangalore with very good numbers, the Government of Karnataka supported him in his further studies and Mokshagundam took admitted to Science College, Poona, and got the first position in the exam.

After completing his studies, he got a job offer from the Bombay government and started his career as an assistant engineer in Nashik.

During the work, he got the new irrigation system ‘Block System’ technique to supply water from the Indus River to Sukkur village, installed steel gates in the dam to stop the flow of water from the dam, built a dam in Pune’s Khadakwasla reservoir, played a key role in developing a system for the defense of Visakhapatnam Port and many more.

He also worked on many important projects with the Government of Karnataka and founded the Soap Factory, Parasite Laboratory, Mysore Iron and Steel Factory, Sri Jayachamarajendra Polytechnic Institute, Bangalore Agricultural University, State Bank of Mysore, Century Club. Along with the establishment of the Mysore Chambers of Commerce and the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering, many educational institutions and factories were established.
