Born on 12 December 1950 in a middle-class family in Bangalore, Mysore State, India, Rajinikanth has worked in more than 170 movies.
Before starting his acting career with Apoorva Raagangal directed by K. Balachander in 1975, he worked as a bus conductor but his career took a new turn after meeting a medical student named Nirmala.
When Nirmala saw Rajinikanth performing on stage, she was very impressed and encouraged him to pursue a career in acting. She sent an application to the Adyar Film Institute to start his acting career.
Then the actor took acting lessons at the Film Institute and started appearing in movies.
He has worked in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Malayalam movies which include Andhaa Kaanoon (1983), Nallavanukku Nallavan (1984), Geraftaar (1985), Bewafai (1985), Padikkadavan (1985), Mr. Bharath (1986), Velaikaran (1987), Manithan (1987), Chandramukhi (2005), Sivaji (2007), Enthiran (2010) and many more hit movies.
